Metformin Medicine  1. Overview Metformin is a first-line oral medication primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not used for type 1 diabetes. It works by improving glycemic control with a low risk of hypoglycemia and is often prescribed alongside lifestyle modifications. 2.
